- Player Notes for Shakespeare Trivia
- ===================================
-
- SETUP
- -----
- This section lets you choose which types of questions will appear in
- the game. If you only choose 1 type, all the questions will be of
- that type. If you choose more than one, the questions will be chosen
- randomly.
-
-
- There are 5 difficulty levels. This affects the titles and names
- used, and the types of questions. Each level of difficulty adds more plays,
- characters, scenes, or quotes to the possible quetions. You don't
- have to remember the following table, it's presented here for information only.
-
-
- Overall Difficulty 1 2 3 4 5
-
- Play difficulty 1 2 3 3 3
- Character importance 1 1 2 2 3
- Quote difficulty 1 2 2 3 3
- Scene difficulty 1 2 3 3 3
-
- Thus, an overall difficulty of 2 uses plays up to difficulty 2,
- characters of importance 1, scenes up to difficulty 2, and quotes of difficulty 2.
-
- If you increase the difficulty to 3, then characters of importance 2 are
- also considered, and plays of difficulty 3 are also added as are scenes up to difficulty 3.

- A note on dates
- --------------
- The dates for Shakespeare's plays are still the subject of controversy
- -- not surprising, since the authorship of several of the plays is
- still not conceded by everyone. In general, I have tried to use the
- date the play was first registered or published, but have used date of
- first performance when known. Many plays were not published until
- 1623, in the first folio, but this is recognized by most scholars as
- much later than their actual writing. Feel free to edit any of these
- dates to reflect your own conclusions....

- Quiz log
- ========
- The file SHAKQUIZ.LOG is created during a session and shows which
- questions were asked. You can use this to track which questions or
- plays are most challenging.
-
- Editing the Shakespeare files
- =============================
- Since the quotes and characters come directly from the plays, there's
- not a lot of editing that remains. However, if you would like to
- change the difficulties assigned, or delete individual items, you can
- edit the files directly using Notepad or other editor. The files
- are:
-
- shakquot.dat -- quotes file
- shakcast.dat -- cast of characters file
- shakscen.dat -- list of scenes file
-
- Each record is one line. The order of records doesnt matter, but all
- records for one play must be sequential within a file. In each file,
- there is a number associated with each line. Change that number to
- increase or decrease the difficulty or importance.
